Baker set to mark 100 years March 18

Dean Baker will celebrate his 100th birthday at an open house from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Born in Edwardsburg, Michigan, March 18, 1918, to Earl and Minnie Baker, he lived in Elkhart from age 4 until 2017, when he moved to the Courtyard in Goshen. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1937.
In 1939, he married Olive (Hess) Baker, who passed away in 2003.
He married Anna Marie (Olinghouse) Bender in 2005. She passed away in August 2017.
He has outlived his siblings, Vern Baker, Orin Baker and Lucille Clover.
Baker worked for the C.G. Conn Company and American Coating Mills. During World War II, he and his wife worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Baker co-founded B&N Aluminum Welding Company in the early 1950s established Dean's Chicken Coop Drive Inn during the late 1950s. In 1965, he developed the Concord Mall and later developed property at the corner of Ind. 15 and U.S. 20 in Bristol.
Baker is a member of the New Life Christian Center in Bristol.
